zu einem Quadrat aufzulösen scheint.

Exzellenter Zustand – berücksichtigt
man das Alter des Flaschenuntersetzers.
Minimale benutzungsbedingte Ge-
brauchsspuren in Form von Putz-/
Kratzspuren sind vorhanden –
originale Versilberung ist sehr gut erhalten.

Provenienz:
stammt aus der Art Déco-Bar des
Pariser Grandhotels GEORGE V.
Hotel Signet befindet sich unten am
Außenrand.

Als das GEORGE V. 1928 eröffnet
wurde, sprachen die  Franzosen von
einem „Pariser Wunder“. Durch seine
gelungene Architektur und die unauf-
dringliche Eleganz erlangte dieses
Hotel Weltgeltung.

Louis Süe wurde 1875 in Bordeaux
als Sohn eines Weinhändlers und
seiner Frau geboren.
1893 begann er an der École des
Beaux-Arts, Paris, zu studieren. 1912
lernte er André Mare kennen, der 1885
in der normannischen Stadt Argentan
geboren wurde. Beide waren für
das InnenarchitekturBüro L’Atelier
Français tätig. Der Ausbruch des Ersten
Weltkriegs unterbrach die Zusammen-
arbeit der beiden Männer kurzzeitig.
1919 nahmen sie ihre berufliche
Beziehung wieder auf, wirkten 1925
an der Innenausstattung des Passagier-
dampfers Île de France mit.
Es entstanden Entwürfe für Geschirr,
das von der Silberschmiede Christofle
hergestellt wurde. Letztere nahm die
Entwürfe in ihr Sortiment auf, so dass
insbesondere Pariser Grandhotels
diese Modelle orderten.

Während ihre Entwürfe zu Lebzeiten
vom Metropolitan Museum of Art
erworben wurden, sind sie heute auch
in so angesehenen Institutionen wie
dem Cooper Hewitt und dem Musée
des Art Decoratifs vertreten.

solve into a square in the recessed mirror,
supported by the artistic design.

Weight: approx. 290 g

Excellent condition – taking into account 
the age of the coaster. Minimal signs of 
wear due to use in the form of plaster/
scratch marks are present –
original silver plating is very well preserved.

comes from the Art Deco bar of the 
Parisian GrandHotel GEORGEV.
HotelSignet is located down at the outer edge.

When the GEORGE V Hotel opened
in 1928, the French spoke of a
„Paris miracle“.
Its fine architecture and unobtrusive
elegance have made this hotel world-
renowned.

Louis Süe was born in Bordeaux in
1875, the son of a wine merchant and
his wife. In 1893, he began to study at
the École des Beaux–Arts in Paris.
In 1912, he met André Mare, who was
born in the Norman city of Argentan in
1885. Both worked for the interior design
office L’Atelier Français. The outbreak
of the First World War the two men
briefly interrupted their collaboration.
They resumed their professional relation-
ship in 1919 and worked on the interior
design of the passenger steamer
Île de France in 1925. They created
designs for crockery made by the silver-
smith Christofle. The latter included
the designs in its range, so that Parisian
grand hotels in particular ordered these
models.

While their designs were acquired during
their lifetime by the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, they are now repre-
sented in prestigious institutions such
as Cooper Hewitt and the 
Musée des Art Decoratifs.
