Die Servierschüssel steht auf einem schmalen
Sockel. Darüber ein gestufter Korpus, der an
der Öffnung umlaufend mit einem schmalen
Bördel abschließt. Beidseitig oben angesetzte,
kantige Handhabe. Gestufter Deckel, der sich
zur Mitte leicht erhöht und dort von einem
aufwendig geformten Knauf bekrönt wird.

Gemessen am Alter sehr schöner,
gepflegter Zustand mit wenigen alters-
und nutzungsbedingten Gebrauchsspuren
wie Putzspuren, zarten Kratzern.
Originale Versilberung ist komplett erhalten.

Die Auguste Victoria, die ursprünglich
Normannia heißen sollte, wurde dann nach
der deutschen Kaiserin „Auguste Viktoria“
benannt und trat am 10. Mai ihre Jungfern-
fahrt von Hamburg über Southampton
nach New York an. Beim Stapellauf am
1. Dezember 1888 in Stettin war die
Kaiserin anwesend.

Hallmarked on the outer edge of the base.

The serving bowl stands on a narrow pedestal
base. Above this rises a stepped body, which
terminates at the rim with a narrow, continuous
rolled edge.
On both sides, angular handles are attached
near the upper section. The stepped lid rises
slightly toward the center and is crowned by
an elaborately shaped finial, giving the piece
an elegant and balanced silhouette typical of
the Art Nouveau period.

Considering its age, the bowl is in very
attractive and well-preserved condition.
There are only minor age- and use-related
signs of wear, such as light polishing marks
and delicate surface scratches. The original
silver plating is fully preserved, which is
remarkable for a piece of this period and
original maritime use.

The Auguste Victoria, which was originally
intended to be named Normannia, was later
named after the German Empress „Auguste
Viktoria“. The ship departed on its maiden
voyage on May 10, sailing from Hamburg
via Southampton to New York.
At the launch ceremony on December 1, 1888,
in Stettin, the Empress herself was present.
The vessel became one of the notable ocean
liners of the Hamburg-America Line,
serving transatlantic routes and representing
the prestige of German passenger shipping
at the end of the 19th century.
