Die Leuchter ruhen auf einem runden, fein
abgestuften Fuß und entfalten eine harmo-
nische, klassische Silhouette. Vom Fuß bis
zur Tülle sind sie reichhaltig, jedoch äußerst
fein ziseliert und mit floralen Ornamenten
verziert, die die hohe Kunstfertigkeit der
französischen Silberschmiedekunst des
ausgehenden 19. Jahrhunderts widerspiegeln.
Die Dekore sind elegant zurückhaltend und
verleihen den Leuchtern eine noble, zeitlose
Ausstrahlung.

Zustand:
Die Leuchter zeigen authentische, altersbe-
dingte Gebrauchsspuren, die ihre lange Ge-
schichte bezeugen.
An verschiedenen Stellen ist Silberabrieb
sichtbar. Die Tüllen sind nicht mehr voll-
kommen rund und weisen kleine Dellen auf.
Diese Spuren sind Zeugnisse ihrer Nutzung
in einem historischen Luxusambiente und
unterstreichen den unverwechselbaren
Charakter der Stücke.
Trotz – oder gerade wegen – dieser
Patina ist das Leuchterpaar von großer
Schönheit und Ausstrahlung.
Ein seltenes Ensemble mit Herkunft aus
einem der bedeutendsten Pariser Paläste.

Im Jahre 1758 wurde das Hotel an einem
der schönsten Plätze der Welt, dem Place
de la Concorde in Paris, erbaut. 1788
erwerben Francois-Félix-Dorothée Berton
des Balbes Graf von Crillon und seine Frau
Marie-Charlotte von Corbon das Hotel und
geben ihm seinen Namen.
Bis 1907 war das Hotel im Besitz der Familie
Crillon. Danach wurde es komplett renoviert
und teilweise von dem französischen Architekt
Destailleurs umgebaut und in die französische
Gesellschaft „Grand Magasins du Louvre“
aufgenommen. Somit gehörte es zu den
Pariser Palast-Hotels. 
Außergewöhnliche Botschaftsempfänge in
diesem Hotel waren berühmt. Viele Berühmt-
heiten haben ihre Namen in das Goldene Buch
des Palasthotels geschrieben, so zum Beispiel:
Reza Schah Pahlavi, Iran, Kaiser Hiro Hito,
King George V von England, König Juan
Carlos und Königin von Spanien, der ameri-
kanische Präsident Theodore Roosevelt,
Richard Nixon.

From one of France’s most prestigious luxury
hotels, Hôtel de Crillon, Paris
Each candlestick bears the inscription beneath
the socket:
“C with crown” and “Hôtel de Crillon Paris”
on the outer edge of the base

Dimensions:
Height approx. 10 in
base diameter approx. 5 in
candle opening diameter approx. 0,8 in –
total weight of both candlesticks approx. 1,145 g

The candlesticks rest on a round, finely
stepped base and display a harmonious,
classical silhouette.
From the base to the socket, they are richly
yet exquisitely chased and decorated with
floral ornaments, reflecting the high level
of craftsmanship of French silver-
smithing at the end of the 19th century.
The decoration is elegant and restrained,
lending the candlesticks a noble and timeless
presence.

Condition:
The candlesticks show authentic age-related
signs of use that testify to their long history.
Areas of silver wear are visible in several places.
The candle sockets are no longer perfectly
round and show small dents. These traces
are evidence of their use in a historic luxury
setting and underline the unmistakable
character of the pieces.
Despite – or precisely because of –
this patina, the pair of candlesticks
possesses great beauty and presence.
A rare ensemble with provenance from one
of the most important Parisian palaces.

In 1758, the hotel was built on one of the
most beautiful squares in the world,
Place de la Concorde in Paris.
In 1788, François-Félix-Dorothée Berton
des Balbes, Count of Crillon, and his wife
Marie-Charlotte de Corbon acquired the hotel
and gave it its name.
Until 1907, the hotel remained in the
possession of the Crillon family. It was then
completely renovated and partly remodeled
by the French architect Destailleurs and
incorporated into the French company
Grand Magasins du Louvre,
thus becoming one of the Parisian palace
hotels.
The hotel became famous for its extraordinary
diplomatic receptions. Many distinguished
figures signed the Golden Book of the palace
hotel, including Reza Shah Pahlavi of Iran,
Emperor Hirohito, King George V of
England, King Juan Carlos and the Queen
of Spain, as well as U.S. Presidents Theodore
Roosevelt and Richard Nixon.
