Dieses schwere, aufwendig gearbeitete Milch-

Weise die Eleganz und den repräsentativen
Luxus der mondänen Gesellschaft an der
französischen Riviera zur Zeit der Belle Époque.
Besonders hervorzuheben ist die aufwendige
Metallarbeit mit ihrem fein ausgeführten,
zweifach umlaufenden Kreuzbanddekor, das
jeweils auf einem fünffachen Faden an der
Gefäßmitte sowie entlang der Öffnung verläuft.
Das Kännchen steht auf vier kunstvoll ge-
stalteten Medaillonfüßen. Blüten- und Blatt-
ornamente schmücken sowohl die ge-
schwungene Handhabe als auch den Aus-
gießer.
Die schwere Ausführung, die ausgewogenen
Proportionen und die detailreiche Ornamentik
zeugen von einer anspruchsvollen Verar-
beitung und der gehobenen Tafelkultur jener
Zeit.

Gepflegter, altersgemäß guter Zustand mit
normalen alters- und nutzungsbedingten
Gebrauchsspuren, insbesondere vereinzelten
Putz- und Polierspuren. Der Innenbereich ist

Das Casino de la Jetée Promenade in Nizza
wurde 1882 ins Meer gebaut. Den Impuls
dafür gab der Marquis d’Espouy de Saint-Paul,
der auf einer Reise nach London den Crystal
Palace (Hyde Park) entdeckte und dieses
Gebäude in Nizza nachbauen wollte.
an warmen Sommerabenden sehr schätzten.
1944 wurde das Casino zerstört.

Silver-Plated Milk Jug

Nice, France
Casino insignia prominently displayed
on the front, in the upper third.
Dimensions:
* Height: approx. 4.9 in

This substantial and elaborately crafted
milk jug is an impressive embodiment of
the elegance and prestigious luxury enjoyed
by high society on the French Riviera during
the Belle Époque.
Of particular note is the intricate metalwork,
featuring a finely executed double circum-
ferential cross-band design, each running
along a five-strand border around the centre
of the vessel and the rim.
The jug stands on four beautifully crafted
medallion feet. Floral and foliate motifs
adorn both the elegantly curved handle
and the spout.
Its substantial weight, harmonious pro-
portions and richly detailed ornamentation
are testament to the high standard of crafts-
manship and refined dining culture of the
period.
Condition:
Well-maintained and in good condition
commensurate with its age, showing normal
signs of age and use, including occasional
cleaning and polishing marks. The interior
is clean and well cared for. Unfortunately,
the hallmark on the base is heavily worn
and no longer legible.
The Casino de la Jetée Promenade in Nice
was built out over the sea in 1882.
The inspiration came from the Marquis
d’Espouy de Saint-Paul, who had discovered
the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London,
during a visit and wished to recreate a similar
building in Nice.
At nightfall, the magnificent Belle Époque
palace, supported by 668 wooden piles,
would illuminate the Nice skyline, its lights
shimmering across the sea.
The large leaded-glass windows, decorated
with Mediterranean Art Nouveau motifs,
could be opened towards the sea –
a feature particularly appreciated by guests
on warm summer evenings.
The casino was destroyed in 1944.
