Maße: ∅ Außenrand ca. 14,5 cm – ∅ Boden/vertiefter Spiegel ca. 11 cm – Höhe ca. 2 cm – Gewicht ca. 207 g

Untersetzer mit vertieftem glatten Spiegel. Hochgezogener nach außen gebogener ca. 1,7 cm breiter Rand,
umlaufend mit zweifachem FadenDekor und einem feinen Perlband versehen. Aufwendiges, zeittypisches
FirmenLogo in der Mitte des Untersetzers.

Antiker Zustand mit deutlichen alters- und nutzungsbedingten Gebrauchsspuren wie Putzspuren,
Kratzern, kleinen Bestoßungen, zarten Kerben am Rand, partiellem Abrieb.

Die Compagnie Internationale des Grands Hôtels (CIGH)
wurde am 11. April 1894 als Tochtergesellschaft des Eisenbahnunternehmens
Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits (CIWL) (ORIENT-EXPRESS) gegründet.
Diese Hotelkette wurde ins Leben gerufen, um den Kunden der CIWL vor oder nach ihrer
Zugreise eine hochwertige Unterkunft zu bieten.

Der Belgier Georges Nagelmackers – Betreiber des legendären ORIENT-EXPRESS und Erfinder des
Speisewagens – gründete die Compagnie Internationale des Grands Hôtels, um entlang der Routen
seiner Züge Luxushotels zu entwickeln und zu betreiben. Die rasche Expansion der CIGH in ganz
Europa machte sie zur ersten internationalen Hotelkette, die zwanzig Jahre lang erfolgreich tätig
war, bis der Erste Weltkrieg das Hotelgeschäft stark beeinträchtigte.

Elaborate company logo centered in the recessed area of the coaster
Dated 6-1900 on the outer part of the base

Dimensions: Outer diameter approx. 5.7 in – Base/recessed center diameter approx. 4.3 in –
Height approx. 0.8 in – Weight approx. 207 g (7.3 oz)

Coaster with recessed, smooth center. Raised, outward-curving rim approx. 0.67 in wide,
adorned all around with a double thread decoration and a fine beaded border.
Elaborate, period-style company logo in the center of the coaster.

Antique condition with visible signs of age and use, such as polishing marks, scratches, small nicks,
light dents on the rim, and partial wear to the plating.

Interesting Provenance:
The Compagnie Internationale des Grands Hôtels (CIGH) was founded on April 11, 1894 as a
subsidiary of the railway company Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits (CIWL) (ORIENT-EXPRESS).
This hotel chain was established to provide CIWL’s passengers with high-quality accommodations before or
after their train journeys.

Georges Nagelmackers, the Belgian operator of the legendary ORIENT-EXPRESS and inventor of the
dining car, founded the Compagnie Internationale des Grands Hôtels to develop and operate luxury hotels
along his train routes. The rapid expansion of CIGH across Europe made it the first international hotel chain,
which operated successfully for twenty years until World War I severely impacted the hotel business.
